‘EGYPTIAN HAREM’ BY DANISH WAKEEL AT LONDON FASHION WEEK SS 2015

London fashion Week is an event renowned not simply for the fashion itself. Each year, this massive event guarantees high octane glamour plus the odd diva tantrum along the way. The vibrant and cosmopolitan nature of London makes London Fashion Week a unique event allowing both established and new designers a platform to display their new collections in front of the press and avid fashionistas. The high fashion British model-turned-designer with Pakistani origins Danish Wakeel renowned for fashion spectacles at the London fashion week that gives a whistle-stop tour of the world history. This season, he took a prolonged stopover in Ancient Egypt for his SS 2015 couture collection ‘Egyptian Harem’ – the Wakeel’s most exciting, innovative and celebratory capsule to date was showcased on the opening day of London Fashion week S/S 2015 at the luxurious and quintessentially British boutique establishment – The Gore Hotel in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The designer rummaged his latest collection at the British Museum in London as well as by floating half-a-mile high in a hot-air balloon that took him on an aerial tour of Egypt that included the Valley of the Kings, Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor. According to Wakeel, the Egyptians were the original architects of fashion and arbiters of style. Ancient Egyptian culture began at the end of the Neolithic period or Stone Age and remained vibrant up to the collapse of the Ptolemaic dynasty, following the death of Cleopatra in 30 BC.

1The Wakeel’s ‘Egyptian Harem’ capsule is a gilded cornucopia of fantasy and allure that utilizes every technical gem available to couture ateliers and is a homage to the ancient Pyramids; the lost treasures, and sacred tombs of King Tutankhamen and Queen Nefertiti; all remarkable human inventions and achievements in themselves that are reflected in the reverential and resplendent couture creations.

Danish Wakeel brought ancient Egypt back from the tombs for his ‘Egyptian Harem’ haute couture show at the London fashion week SS 2015— and the result never looked so glitzy or modern. Wakeel’s take on the ancients included models at the commencement of the show as queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra followed by their pharaohs. There were captivating headdresses based on ancient silhouettes, from fertility goddess Isis to dog-head Anubis to hawk Horus, keeper of wisdom. Most of all, it was an euphoric fabric show, from a luxurious skirts to a heavily embellished swim suit in matt black color. Egypt-inspired ornaments worn by male models under and over sumptuous velvet, silks and cotton suits of bright and auriferous pallet, it was a rich treat.

The Controversial and Monumental fashion editorial for Danish Wakeel, London

The fashion world is constantly changing. Great minds are inspired by the most diverse and obscure situations of society, their habits, their ideas and also their defeats. International model and fashion designer Danish Wakeel was arousing to a particular emotional product of an intense research on drugs, sexuality and the dark sides of a society without inhibition. I like the brave selection of colours that Danish always brings to the menswear and his intellectual ideas that always lie behind his collections, and so would like to share his great new photos with you.

The “Controversial and Monumental fashion editorial” featuring Danish´s latest A/W´14 collection was organized by an upcoming fashion designer and stylist Lucas Bueno and his team of professionals. Without the strong contribution of all these excellent professionals and their skills and talents achieving the brief wouldn’t happen. Translating themes into fashion that are per se complex requires a lot of research and commitment.
The indulgence and seduction of the collection and the melody sang by two live performers Rose Parsons and Stanley Volk, brought an atmosphere of debauchery and playfulness on set which was easy to make all the models get inside the theme the designer wanted to portray.

Fashion is a multicultural road! Danish wanted to bring a new language by working with models of different nationalities and backgrounds. For Danish, it was all about cultural richness. Lucas gave special attention on choosing the team, from MUAs to the models and photographers, focusing on cultural richness. Studies about Sociology prove that actions, ideas and intensions are a result of cultural processes connected to the roots of every individual and based on this thought the theme was explored.
The Controversial and Monumental fashion editorial for Danish Wakeel A/W´14 is about bringing the inhibition of society and its rage of actions and emotions through multicultural ways.

International Press at Danish Wakeel’s show, LFW AW2014

When it comes to the world of Vogue, fashion journalism and media is an important part. The spotlight at London, as we ushered in London Fashion Week (LFW) for the AW2014 shows 14th-18th February, Danish Wakeel’s ‘Retrogression’ show had been one of the most iconic and talked about shows that attracted local and international press coverage. The public, together with international press and buyers, had an opportuntunity to explore the collection of one of the most innovative fashion icons Danish Wakeel, who is becoming obviously a celebrated rising stars on a global level attracting attention from around the world. London Fashion Week is one of the highest profile fashion events in the world and one of the ‘big four’ international catwalk influencers.

The ‘Retrogression’ show at the London fashion week AW2014 added the much required gravitas to Danish Wakeel’s star stature and he proved once again that his creativity and aesthetics are much more than just a mainstream high fashion runway model and an actor.

A proud British Asian star, who continues to make his country proud with every new endeavour, always designs unusual collars and lapels for his menswear collections. I can imagine if someone appeared on public wearing one of his jackets with unusually long lapels he would definitely get all eyes on him and would seem to be a real dandy.

Danish has gradually managed to secure a place for himself as one of the respected designers who presents collections each season in London for the past few years. His films, in which his extravagant creations are presented in a very subtle manner, seem to be quite popular.

The Danish Wakeel’s initiation into the world of glamour was an extraordinary one. With a childhood dream to become a commerical pilot and graduating with his first degree in avaition, he was noticed in one of the Central London clubs by a fashion writer. That was his begining of an efficacious career in fashion. I am particularly interested in the breathtaking and extraneous necklines and collars of his creations which never cease to exhilarate my attention.

Upcoming show of Danish Wakeel

Danish Wakeel, the designer whose collections with unusual necklines I published in my blog several times, is going to present his new collection during London Fashion Week in September 2012  – ‘DANISH WAKEEL’S PEACOCK REVOLUTION COLLECTION’ inspired by the Bohemianism and the Hippie movement. Danish is a person with an open mind for experiments, so I am expecting brave ideas in his design and I hope we will see some unusual necklines in September.

The 1960s were a period of major change and experimentation. It is no surprise that the fashion industry was so greatly influenced by the growing trend to break from the old and try new things. The Peacock Revolution is one example of the bold fashion changes taking place in the 1960s.

The Peacock Revolution sparked a major change in the way that men dressed, creating an emergence of bright colours and flamboyant styles. Suddenly, men were trading their old style of fashion for velvet Edwardian suits, bright coloured and psychedelic patterned shirts, jackets, and ties. Even footwear began to change, as men were seen wearing Chelsea heeled, pointy-toed boots. These new looks were completed with longer and bolder styled hairstyles for men.

Music icons, such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, carried a heavy influence on the fashion trends of the time. These popular bands embraced the trends of the Peacock Revolution, causing the men of the time to more readily make this bold fashion leap.

There is the trailer of the short film that will be premiered in September right before the catwalk presentation of creations. The short fashion film is called ‘Danish Wakeel’s Embodiment of Extravagance‘ and it reveals ‘Danish Wakeel’s Peacock Revolution‘ collection.
